Stop Being Afraid of Failure

Most people in this world have a fear of failure on some level. It is something that we have been conditioned to accept since we were children.

Our educational system views failure as a bad thing, instead of focusing on it as an inevitable part of learning and growth. We are punished for making mistakes. This constant reprimand for not being perfect, causes a pattern and belief that failure is something to be avoided at all costs.

This belief ends up causing people to not even try things in life because of their fear of being criticized if it doesn’t work out. This creates a mediocrity lifestyle for a majority of people.

We can only accept that which we believe we are capable of in life.

Here is a brief video of Richard Branson speaking with Seth Godin about learning from failure. If the fear of failure has ever crossed your mind then check out this video and you maybe able to create a different belief about what failure really means.

I hope you enjoyed this video and were able to see the type of belief that Richard Branson has towards this word we call “failure”.

In life if your going to take advice from people you might as well listen to the people who are successful. Richard Branson is one of these people. By studying his belief systems and those of other successful people you too can turn the fear of failure into your greatest asset!

How To Write Goals

Let’s get down to business on How To Write Goals that will lead to success. Clear written goals are one way to help you achieve success. Clearly written goals are a target for your mind to shot for, giving it a direction to focus on.

As I mentioned in an earlier post on Goal Setting Success, the first step is to write your goals down. Studies show that people who have clear written goals are ten times as likely to achieve their goals as those how have clear goals but are not written down.

When it comes to how to write goals there are eight simple steps, that we will go over.

Let’s begin the formula on How To Write Goals!

  • State Your Goals in Writing. Once you have chosen your goal you MUST write it down, I can’t stress this enough. Be sure to be clear and specific on what you want to achieve. Focus on short-range goals first, those from a few weeks to a year to start with. This gets the momentum going. These short-range goals can lead you up to medium-range and long-range goals.

  • Write Down The Starting Date. That day could be today! The sooner you start the sooner you will get to your goal. When is Now a good time to get started?

  • Write Down Your Attainment Date. This is the date that you want to achieve your goal. You may achieve it a little sooner or even later then the date you wrote down, the idea is to give the universe and your mind a target date to get things done by.  This will also help you to avoid procrastination and be more efficient with your time.

  • List the Rewards. What rewards will you receive when you’ve reached your goal? This is where visualizing, feeling and imagining the enjoyment that this goal will bring you comes into play. For the best results I recommend doing this at least 3 times per day.  Take the time to relax and see yourself enjoying the rewards of you goal.

  • What is Your Starting Point? Begin with the Starting Date, the date you are writing your goal. Now, describe your Starting Point. Where are you now in relation to where you want to go?  This serves two purposes. One, is it serves as a record of where you started. This helps you to measure the progress you have made with your goal. Some times we forget how much we accomplished while going for our goals, we tend to take the progress for granted.  The second thing this does is helps us see the current situation more clearly. This helps to define the problem and make the situation better.

  • What is Your Action Plan? Write down steps that you think that you will need to take in order to reach your goal. Do some brainstorming and come up with as many ways as you can to take action.  Don’t get critical and hung up on these steps at this stage. Just write as many down as you can. Some you will throw out and you may add others later. The more you focus on the positive end result of your goal the clearer the action steps will come.

  • Write Down Any Obstacles. Make a list of any obstacles that you may encounter on your journey. Include anything that may hinder you in reaching your goal.  This may sound negative but it helps you to see what challenges you may face.  After writing things down you may realize that they are not as big as you had perceived.

  • Solutions To Obstacles. Make a list of all the solutions you can come up with for the obstacles that you may face. Approach each obstacle with the feeling that you already possess a good solution. As Booker T. Washington said, “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life, as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.”

This whole formula on How To Write Goals shouldn’t take more then 15 minutes to complete. The idea isn’t to make it complicated. Keep in mind that we are goal striving mechanisms. We are built to solve problems. It is said that the bigger problems that we can solve the more we will earn.

Have fun and set great goals for yourself in the year to come.

Goal Setting Success

The secret of goal setting success is to realize that you are the key ingredient when it comes to setting your goals.  Each one of us possesses the ability to manifest the goals that we desire. The question is “Will you make it happen or will you sabotage your success?”

When it comes to goal setting success our mind set is crucial. We are using the law of attraction when it comes to getting anything we want to create in life and this works for or against us depending on our thought process.

There are many methods to use when setting goals. The key is to find a method that you like and that works best for you.

One important thing to remember when doing any goal setting method is to realize that you are more important then your goal. It is healthy to be moving toward a goal, it is also very important not to tie you self-worth to that goal.  You want to make sure you are stretching yourself, not stressing yourself out.

OK, lets get started!

This is a Simple 8-Step Method to Achieve Your Goals.

  1. Write Your Goal Down. This is the most important step in goal setting success. This is the first step in making your goals physically real. Studies have shown that those who have clear written goals are ten times more likely to achieve their goals as those who have clear goals but don’t write them down.
  2. Be Specific. The more specific you are in writing your goals, the more likely you are to achieve them.  “I want more money” is not a goal, it’s a wish. Write down how much money you want to make and when exactly you want it by. You must have a clear deadline.
  3. Make Sure they are Your Goals. It is your life; so make sure you are doing it because you want it, not because someone else thinks it would be good for you. Do your goals reflect your values, beliefs and desires? Are they consistent with what you love?
  4. Share Your Goals Only With People that are Positive and Will Support You. People how are habitually negative are dream killers.  Constructive criticism is good; it can even be helpful at times if coming from the right people. Surround yourself with people who will support you in achieving your goal.  Their support and belief in you will help you to believe in yourself.
  5. Use Pictures and Symbols. Having a visual representation of what you are going after helps look the image into your mind.  Even better put yourself in the picture if it is appropriate. This helps your mind to see it, as you want it to be. We are visual creatures and our mine can associate with these pictures and symbols.
  6. Make a Commitment. The moment you make a true and definite commitment to achieve your goal the universe steps in to help make it happen. The people, material and opportunities make themselves available to you. An important aspect is to write down WHY you want to achieve this goal. The more committed you are the better chance you have of getting to your goal.
  7. Be Persistent. If you make a truly firm commitment this will happen automatically.  If you’ve committed to getting your goal, then let nothing hold you back from achieving your desired outcome, make sure your not hurting anyone or breaking the law in the process.
  8. Program for Your Goals at Least Three Times a Day. This is when visualization comes into play.  See yourself already having completed your goal. Make sure to fully experience what it would feel like, NOW that you have achieved your desired goal.  You are a goal setting success machine and can make all your goals a reality!

These are eight steps in your goal setting success formula. Put them into practice and see what results you can achieve. My next post we will get into the specifics of How to Write Your Goals.
